Improper dressing of the guide wheel and grinding wheel can cause concave rolling surfaces in the precision grinding of tapered rollers, affecting the contour curve and quality stability of the convex roller ultra precision machining. A CNC guide wheel grinder is used to grind the spiral guide wheel, combined with the CNC shaping of the grinding wheel, to ensure the convex shape and ultra precision quality of the grinding roller. The applicability of the CNC guide wheel grinder in processing high-precision tapered rollers has been verified through installation tests.
Roller grinding method
When the tapered roller passes through grinding, the guide wheel of the centerless grinder is replaced with a steel spiral wheel. Under the transmission of the feeding device, the roller to be processed is fed into the spiral groove. The bottom of the spiral groove has an angle that is suitable for the taper of the roller to be processed, so that the contour of the roller is parallel to the contour of the grinding wheel. The roller moves along the grinding wheel's centerline and relies on the edge of the spiral groove to push the roller to achieve through grinding.
Due to the lack of convexity in the spiral guide wheel through the grinding method, the machined roller profile is straight and has almost no convexity measurement, so it is different from the machining method of fully convex rollers.
The principle of fully convex roller through grinding is to trim the grinding wheel into a concave shape, and the guide wheel spiral groove into a drum shape, similar to the modeling method of through machining to produce fully convex rollers. This method is difficult to process, as the rollers run through the curve trajectory and the spiral working surface unfolds in a curve. The grinding guide wheel requires the use of a more complex guide wheel grinder. Therefore, the grinding quality of the spiral guide wheel is the key to machining fully convex rollers.
