What is the function of the guide wheel?

2024-01-30

The guide wheel has a guiding effect on the liquid and increases torque at low speeds. The guide wheel is the reaction element of a hydraulic torque converter, a type of pulley used to guide the drive belt through obstacles or change the direction of the drive belt, located between the turbine and pump wheel. The guide wheel of the hydraulic torque converter has a guiding effect on the liquid, which can control the flow direction of the liquid. After the automatic torque converter oil flows from the turbine into the guide wheel, the direction will change, which strengthens the rotational torque of the pump wheel and thus increases the output torque. At low speeds, it plays a role in increasing torque: the guide wheel plays a role in increasing torque at low speeds. The principle is that the pump wheel is driven by the engine to carry out oil flow, forming a vortex to impact the turbine and rotate, and then transmitting force to the turbine. Due to the guide plates on the pump wheel and turbine, the oil forms a circulating flow, circulating between the pump wheel, turbine, and guide wheel. The force of the pump impeller oil impacting the turbine (FB) passes through the turbine and impacts the guide wheel. The guide wheel cannot reverse or remain stationary, forming a reaction force (FD) acting on the turbine. The force obtained by the turbine (FT=FB+FD) is the increasing torque effect of the guide wheel.
